Detailed Review: Nokia Lumia 800

    • Overview:

Nokia being the World’s largest mobile phone manufacturing company has now teamed up with Microsoft which is world’s largest software manufacturing company and have produced a sleek and beautiful Smartphone called as Nokia Lumia 800. It is a crucial time for both these companies as they are facing the crunch time and the heat in the global market. Lumia 800 was released first in the month of Oct 2011 just after the release of Nokia N9.

    • Design & System:

Currently in the Mobile Phone market there are many contenders. Design is one such feature which can create miracles in such competition. Lumia 800 is an attractive and thin mobile phone designed using the single Polycarbonate plastic material like N9 hence making it a very durable and high impact-resistance phone. It has rounded edges on all the corners. Thus in the design perspective Lumia 800 is flawless very neatly designed elegant phone.
Nokia N9 was developed using MeeGo Os but Lumia 800 is the first Microsoft Windows Phone based on Windows phone 7.5 Os, code name as “Mango”. Core processor speed is 1.4GHz with 16GB memory, 512MB RAM & uses Qualcomm chipset. There is no Memory card slot hence no option for memory expand. Also the battery is integrated into the phone like mp3 players/iPods and cannot be removed separately. This phone supports the micro-SIM card only. Battery life for GSM phone is 13 hours and 3G its 10 hours and it is charged using the micro USB. There are very few external keys Camera button, volume control and a reset/Lock/Unlock key. This means the phones uses touchscreen as the major user interface. Phone works with full featured sensors like –
Accelerometer – Helps in the display orientation from landscape to portrait & vice versa.

Proximity sensor – deactivates the display and the touchscreen when the phone is brought near to face during a call.
Ambient light detector – Adjusts the display brightness automatically.
Dual microphone – Helps in cancelling the active noise while on call.

    • Display & Camera:

Lumia 800 has a 3.7inch High definition AMOLED Clear-Black Display with the capacitive multi touch functionality and with a resolution of 800×480 pixels (WVGA – Wide Video Graphics Array). This display looks sharp in the direct sunlight & it is built using Gorilla technology. It means the glass used for the screen is scratch resistant. But there is only one camera in the phone and that is at the back. No front camera hence making it a limitation in the 3G era. In such heated up competition in the market why Nokia has given a scope for such limitation nobody knows. But the camera at the back is 8MP 4X Digital zoom with auto-focus and dual LED flash. The Carl Zeiss lens does a great job of capturing the moment.

    • Music & Connectivity:

The phone is loaded with two new Nokia exclusive features – Nokia Drive and Nokia Music. Nokia Drive helps the user in the navigation and Nokia Music lets the user experience free streaming songs, mixed radio service. Unfortunately this service is not available in the India. There is a 3.5mm audio connector and a High speed USB connector but no HDMI interface. Other connectivity includes Bluetooth 2.1v, WiFi, GPRS, EDGE, 3G supported protocol – HSDPA – 14.4Mbps (High Speed Downlink Packet Access) & HSUPA – 5.76Mbps (High Speed Uplink Packet Access).

    • Availability and Price:

Lumia 800 is one jaw dropping phone available in the world wide market. MultiPlayer Games, Xbox live can be played on this cell phone. Application market is available from where we can download many apps like the famous Angry Bird game etc. Price of this phone is nearly Rs 30k.
