Nexus 4 is the first Android smartphone to feature the latest Android Jelly bean 4.2 Operating System. Nexus 4 is collaboratively designed by Google and LG Electronics.
The device was officially announced by Google in Oct 2012 and is available on the Google Play store. The Nexus 4 is yet to be released in India, perhaps in Jan 2013.
Samsung Galaxy S III is undoubtedly one of the best and most popular handset available in the market till today. Below is a brief comparison on the features to know which one is the best among the two.
Os:
Google Nexus 4 comes with the latest Android 4.2 Jelly Bean version where as the Samsung Galaxy S3 which was released in May 2012 comes with the Android 4.0.4 Ice cream Sandwich Os.
Android Os v4.2 is a new flavor of Jelly Bean which is more faster and smoother Os compared to its predecessor. Apart from this the other major advantage of having the latest version of Os would be the added features, be it in the power management area or user interface or the apps. The SGS3 handsets around the world are yet to receive their Jelly Bean v4.1 update.
Nexus 4 being a Google phone has the advantage of receiving the latest android updates directly from Google without much delay which is usually the case with the Non Google devices where one needs to wait for months to get these updates.
System:
LG Nexus 4 is powered by Qualcomm’s quad-core 1.5GHz Krait processor which is also known as Snapdragon S4 Pro, the SGS3 has a quad-core 1.4GHz Cortex A9 processor. With the latest Os version and slightly higher processor speed the Nexus 4 may outperform in processing speed compared to the galaxy S3.
Nexus 4 comes with an impressive 2GB RAM where as the S3 international version comes with 1GB RAM.
Internal memory of Nexus 4 is either 8GB or 16GB only and the internal memory of SGS3 is either 16GB/32GB/64GB.
One more disadvantage of Nexus 4 is that it no microSD card slot hence restricting the memory to 8GB/16GB (internal memory). On the other hand the SGS3 has a microSD card slot which is expandable upto 64GB. Both the handsets comes with online storage facilities like Dropbox or skydrive kinds.
Display:
The Nexus 4 has a 4.7 inch WXGA True HD IPS Plus touchscreen with 768 x 1280 pixels resolution where as SGS3 has a bit longer screen size of 4.8 inch Super AMOLED display type with 1280 x 720 pixel resolution. Nexus 4 has 320 pixels per inch and the SGS3 has 306 ppi, hence the images on the Nexus 4 will be more crisper and sharper than on the SGS3. Displayâs on both the devices are protected from Corning’s Gorilla Glass 2 for scratch and damage resistance.
Camera & Battery:
Both the handsets feature an 8MP rear camera with 1080p HD video recording and LED Flash with autofocus.
Nexus 4 has a 1.3MP front facing camera and SGS3 has a 1.9MP camera at the front for video chatting.
Both the devices have a 2100mAH battery. Nexus 4 weighs around 139grams and SGS3 around 133grams.
Price:
Earlier Google had made a statement saying that it will bring down the prices of Android smartphones and tablets and this is it. Here is a high spec and full featured smartphone which is priced very impressive. The price of LG Nexus 4 8GB version is $299 and the 16GB for $349 where as the SGS3 16GB version is priced appx for $550.
After the Nexus 4’s global release it will be evident for Samsung and other Android smartphone manufacturers to cut down the prices on their devices to maintain the competition.
