At CES 2013 Samsung launched the Exynos 5 Octa an 8 core processor designed for mobile devices. In future the Samsung devices will feature this processor hence making them Octa – Core smartphones. We mayn’t require an 8 core device currently but this is the future news.
For present, most of the android smartphones are featuring the quad core processor. Some of the semiconductor company feel even the 4 core processors are currently not required as there are not many apps which are developed where all the 4 cores are used at their best but for gamers and web browsing geeks the little bit of the quad core power may help alot.
Anyways here is the list of 5 recently released/announced/upcoming smartphones which will be featuring the quad core processors and guess what the list also includes the devices from the Indian manufacturers.
Apart from the below listed smartphones the other popular devices with quad core processor released in 2012 are HTC One X Plus, Samsung Galaxy S III, LG Nexus 4, Samsung Galaxy Note II.
1. Sony Xperia Z:
Sony Xperia Z is the new flagship smartphone from the Japanese company. The beautifully designed handset features almost all of the high end features. In all ways this smartphones impresses the customer except the price. Official price tag for India is yet to be announced but expect the phone to cost more than 38,000 bucks in India.
Xperia Z features a shatter proof 5 inch full HD reality display integrated with Mobile BRAVIA Engine 2 technology for super brightness and clarity. It is powered by the 1.5GHz Snapdragon S4 Pro quad-core processor and 2GB RAM.
The device will be initially shipped with the Android 4.1.2 Jelly bean Os which will be later updated to the 4.2 version. According to the company the phone is dust and water-resistant (IP55 & IP57) (submerged in fresh water upto a depth of 1 meter). The smartphone is expected to be released in March 2013 in India and around the world.
2. HTC Butterfly:
HTC Butterfly is the international version of the HTC Droid DNA and HTC J Butterfly. This smartphone has similar specs as of the Xperia Z hence it will also cost more than Rs 38k. It is expected to release by January end in India.
In China, HTC is providing a NFC equipped HTC Mini phone alongwith the Butterfly. This Mini phone can be used as a remote control for the Butterfly smartphone. It can take pictures, sound alarm, make phone calls and even read messages via HTC Butterfly. HTC Mini remote phone will increase the convenience of some people who are not so comfortable of using large sized phones publicly.
3. Huawei Ascend D2:
Huawei Ascend D2 was showcased in the CES 2013 alongwith the Ascend Mate. Ascend D2 is one of the fastest smartphone as claimed by the Chinese Company. The handset which is dust and water resistant is running on the Android 4.1.2 Os Jelly bean version and 1.5GHz Quad core processor with 2GB of RAM and 32GB of internal memory. The phone doesn’t support the microSD card slot but is powered by a massive 3000mAh battery which is good enough to provide a standby time of more than 5 days.
The Ascend D2 is expected to be released by this month end in India. It may cost around Rs 35k.
4. Micromax Canvas HD A116:
MMX A116 is the flagship smartphone from Micromax which amazingly features a quad core processor chipset from MediaTek a Chinese semiconductor vendor. The SoC is built using the latest 28nm fabrication process which could help the Canvas HD in terms of power efficiency.
As the name suggests the MMX A116 has a IPS HD display of resolution 1280 x 720 pixels. This device also supports Dual SIM slots with dual active mode.
Looking at the other features the Canvas HD makes a good choice under the Rs 15k price range. It is set to release in the first week of February across the country.
5. Karbonn S1 Titanium:
Karbonn S1 Titanium will be the tough competitor for Micromax Canvas HD. Along with the quad core processor the smartphone will feature a qHD display and Android Jelly Bean Os. What makes more interesting is its price which is expected to be under Rs 14K.
Karbonn may announce the official release date of S1 Titanium in a day or two but the company has already started to take the pre orders on its website for this handset.
