Micromax yesterday officially announced the successor of Canvas 2 A110 called Canvas HD A116. The Micromax Canvas HD is expected to hit the Indian market in the first week of February 2013 with an approximate price tag of Rs 15,000.
On the other hand Samsung Galaxy Grand Duos (GT-I9082) android smartphone which was announced couple of days back at CES 2013 held in Las Vegas is finally launched in India today for Rs 21,500. Galaxy Grand is pretty much similar in features when compared to Micromax A116 Canvas HD with little difference in Display, CPU and price.
A brief comparison on Samsung Galaxy Grand vs Micromax A116 Canvas HD.
Here we can see some major differences between the two phablets.
Both the smartphone are powered by android v4.1 Jelly Bean Os but the Canvas HD is planned to get the v4.2 JB update in future.
In the processing unit the A116 comes with a 1.2 GHz Cortex-A7 Quad-core processor from MediaTek whereas the GT I9082 comes with a 1.2GHz dual core processor.
On paper the Canvas 3 HD may win the battle but the real performance result between the two can be seen only when compared in real.
Moving on to the memory section both the devices have 1GB RAM. Galaxy Grand Duos offers a pretty good in built storage of capacity 8GB and the microSD card slot is expandable up to 64GB whereas A116 HD has a 4GB of internal memory and a microSD card slot of 32GB capacity.
The battery power of both smartphones is 2000 mAh capacity.
Both the two SIM smartphones features a 5-inch capacitive touchscreen. But in terms of display resolution A116 Canvas HD has an edge over Galaxy Grand. Canvas A116 screen has a resolution of 720 x 1280 pixels with 294 ppi density which would make it a high definition display whereas the Galaxy Grand has a lower resolution of 480 x 800 pixels with 187 ppi density.
But Galaxy Grand beats A116 by having a multi-window option where the user can simultaneously browse multiple windows on the same screen. Also the UI of the Samsung device is integrated with the TouchWiz feature which makes it stand apart from the Micromax’s Canvas HD’s stock UI. So technically the Galaxy Grand is an advantage over the Canvas HD.
Both the Android device feature an 8 MP rear camera with autofocus and LED flash but some distinct differences between them are found. Samsung Galaxy Grand features the image stabilization and video recording at 1080pixels which gives a full HD playback whereas the A116 has no image stabilization and supports VGA video recording. The SGG has a 2MP front camera and MMX A116 has a VGA.
Connectivity wise both the device support Wi-Fi, GPRS, EDGE, microUSB v2.0. The minor differences lies in the version of Bluetooth and 3G network.
Release Date in India:
Samsung Galaxy Grand is officially released on Jan 22, 2013 and Micromax A116 Canvas HD is expected to be released in the first week of February 2013.
Price of Samsung Galaxy Grand in India is Rs 21,500 and the expected price of
Micromax A116 Canvas HD is approximately Rs 15,000.
With the above comparison we can say that Micromax is trying very hard to compete with the big brands to acquire much of the market share by introducing well featured smartphones at a very competitive price tag.
On paper Canvas HD looks pretty satisfactory in terms of specs when compared with the Samsung Galaxy I9082.
The company claims that currently around 5500 units of Canvas 2 are sold daily in India, if this is the case then Canvas HD may have a bright future.
