Just type the Train No and SMS it to 09415139139 or 09664139139 using your Mobile Phone to know the exact location of the train in real-time.
This project is named as The Real-Time Train Running Information System (RTIS or RTTIS) and it was started last year. RTIS is jointly developed by the Ministry of Railway’s Research arm called as Research, Design and Standards Organization (RDSO) and IIT-Kanpur team. Currently the project is deployed on 36 pairs of premier trains like Rajdhani, Shatabdi and Duronto and by 2013 end the service will be extended to all other trains (including express, mail trains) in India.
For the exact trains numbers on which this service is available on a trail basis are – 12001, 12002, 12003, 12004, 12005, 12006, 12011, 12012, 12013, 12014, 12017, 12018, 12033, 12034, 12235, 12236, 12423, 12424, 12435, 12436, 22423, 22424, 12301, 12302, 12305, 12306, 12313, 12314, 12431, 12432, 12951, 12952, 12953, 12954, 12259, 12260
When the user sends the message to the above specified service number the following information is sent back as a SMS – Train Location, Train running position (i.e. whether train is running on time or if running late and by how much) and Train location with respect to next stopping station in terms of kms. There may be a delay of 2mins before you receive the message.
For instance, this is how the message looks –
“On 19/10/2011 10:00, Train 12004 N Delhi – Lucknow Shat. is running at 129 kmph near Bharthana, 126 km from KANPUR CENTRAL. Presently Right on time”.
